It’s rare that I’ll produce something I’m not also directing and/or writing, but I’ll do it for stories that really speak to me, or if it’s helping a talented friend make their first foray in directing.
Pick Me Up is Allison Tolman’s directorial debut. After starring in my short film Believe Her, she executive produced my proof of concept short for The Invaders. Once we wrapped that production, we switched places and I produced her film, which premiered at the Oscar Qualifying 2023 LA Shorts Film Festival. As you can tell, we had absolutely no fun on set.
Logline: When a wayward substitute teacher finds himself in the company ofa young boy in the school’s pick up lane at the end of day, he is surprised to find that this chance meeting is exactly what he needed.
Big Sur is Lila Dupree’s directorial debut. Lila and I went to drama school together at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, and reconnected when I moved to LA. I fell in love with her beautiful script, and was excited to help her bring this deeply personal story to life.
Big Sur follows Faye on the eve of her 40th anniversary, as she returns to the beloved place where she and her husband eloped many years before. An examination of the legacy of mental illness, Big Sur explores a taboo subject still shadowed by the stigma of guilt and shame. It also premiered at the 2023 LA Shorts, and went on to win Best Narrative Short at the Washington West Film Festival.
